The regulations that apply depend on your building, how the lift is used and the specification you choose. The APL Traction Goods Lift is supplied in line with EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. Goods lifts used at work must also be thoroughly examined and maintained in line with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

What is the APL Traction Goods Lift, and who is it best for?
The APL Traction Goods Lift is designed for buildings with a high turnover of goods between floors, such as shopping centres, storage facilities and refuse stores. It's available with 500, 1,000, 1,500 or 2,000kg capacity and up to 9m of travel over up to four levels. The right choice depends on the users, loads, route, available space and building constraints, so Alliance should confirm suitability through a site survey and written specification.
How much space and building work does the APL Traction Goods Lift need?
The APL Traction Goods Lift comes with its own freestanding modular structure that bears the full weight of the system, so it needs no machine room or major construction work, although anchoring the structure to each floor is recommended. A 100mm pit is built into the structure with a loading ramp, or a 100mm pit can be formed below it. Minimum headroom is the car's internal height plus 700mm, and car sizes run from 1,000mm to 2,000mm in 100mm steps. Exact dimensions, pit, headroom, structural support and openings are project-specific. A survey should verify measured space, fixing points, access for installation and any builder or electrical works before the design is signed off.
What can the APL Traction Goods Lift carry, and what is its load capacity?
The APL Traction Goods Lift is available with 500kg, 1,000kg, 1,500kg or 2,000kg capacity. If a greater capacity is required, our APL Hydraulic Goods Lift is available with up to 5,000kg.
What happens to the APL Traction Goods Lift during a power cut or fault?
In the event of a power cut, the APL Traction Goods Lift, if fitted with emergency batteries, will descend to the lowest floor. The attendant version includes an entrapment alarm, with a telephone, autodialler and 3-hour emergency car light available as options. The full procedure will be demonstrated upon handover.
What inspections and workplace regulations apply to the APL Traction Goods Lift?
Goods lifts used at work fall under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), which require a thorough examination by a competent person at least every 12 months, and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), which cover safe use, maintenance and training. The APL Traction Goods Lift is designed to carry goods, not passengers. We can service the lift and help you keep the right records, and we’ll confirm the requirements for your site during survey.
What does “attended goods use” mean for the APL Traction Goods Lift?
The standard APL Traction Goods Lift is for goods only. The APL Traction + Attendant version is modified so one or two competent attendants can travel with the load, operating it from inside with a key switch and constant-pressure controls, protected by a full-height light curtain and an entrapment alarm. It is not a passenger lift.
What travel, entry and finish options are available for the APL Traction Goods Lift?
The APL Traction Goods Lift offers up to 9m of travel and four levels, with single or open-through entrances. Manual hinged landing doors with windows are standard, with folding shutter gates and stainless steel doors as options; car doors aren't standard but picket gates can be added. Final travel, stops, door arrangement, clear openings, platform size and finishes are recorded in the project specification after survey.

The cost of an APL Traction Goods Lift depends on load capacity, travel, number of levels, car size, doors or gates, and any builder or electrical works. A site survey allows Alliance to price the actual configuration and state exactly what is included.
What servicing, warranty and project documentation come with the APL Traction Goods Lift?
All Alliance lifts are backed by a manufacturer’s warranty (subject to our terms and conditions), with ongoing maintenance and 24/7 emergency call-out support available. The warranty term, service frequency and documents supplied at handover, such as drawings, manuals and declarations, are confirmed in writing for your project.
