Custom platform lift.The regulations that apply to a custom lift depend on your building, how it is used and the model you choose. Depending on your project, requirements can include the Equality Act 2010, Part M of the Building Regulations, BS EN 81-41, BS 6440 and the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

What does a custom platform lift involve?
We start with a site survey, then design the lift around your building, from its size, travel and entrances to the structure and finishes. You sign off the drawings before manufacture begins, and we manage the installation, handover and aftercare, so you have one team from start to finish.
Can a lift be designed to suit a listed or heritage building?
Yes. We have installed platform lifts with custom timber and metal finishes at a Grade I listed heritage site, working closely with the architects and designers. Materials, glazing and cladding can be chosen to complement the building, and we provide the drawings needed to support a listed building consent application where one is required.
What finishes can I choose?
Options depend on the model, but include any RAL colour, brushed or mirrored stainless steel, metallic bronze, brass and copper, clear, tinted or frameless glass, timber cladding and flooring that matches the surrounding floor. Landing doors can also be clad to match the doors around them, so the lift blends into the building.
Can you build a lift to fit an unusual or tight space?
Many of our lifts are made to measure. For example, APL Elite Cabin Lift cabins start from 500 x 550mm, the APL Hydraulic Platform Lift needs only an 85mm pit, and the APL Chain-Driven Platform Lift needs a 60mm pit and no lift shaft. A site survey confirms what will fit and what building work is needed.
Does a custom lift still meet accessibility regulations?
Custom sizes and finishes do not change the standards a lift must meet. Each lift is specified to the regulations that apply to its type and use, including Part M of the Building Regulations where accessible access is required. We will confirm what applies to your project at the design stage.
Can a custom lift be installed outside?
Yes. Several of our lifts are designed for external use, with weatherproof components, protective finishes and glazed or clad structures. Exposure, drainage and material grades are agreed during design so the lift suits its location.
How much does a custom lift cost?
The cost depends on the lift type, travel, number of stops, size, finishes and any building work. After a site survey we provide a written quotation that sets out exactly what is included.
