Muswell Hill Library is a cherished and historically significant community hub situated in the heart of North London. Serving generations of local residents, it provides a welcoming space for study, learning, and access to essential resources and public services.
In a traditional early 20th-century building, the library is not only a focal point for community engagement but also an architectural landmark with period features and heritage value.
However, the age and design of the building presented notable challenges in terms of accessibility, particularly for individuals with mobility needs.
The client wanted to enhance accessibility for all library patrons by installing a reliable and discreet platform lift that would blend into the library’s traditional interior while offering a practical mobility solution. They also wanted a glass atrium to let in natural light as well as provide a scenic experience for their guests.
The primary challenges included:
