Depending on your project, requirements can include the Equality Act 2010, Part M of the Building Regulations, BS EN 81-41, BS 6440 and the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

How much does a platform lift cost?
Every platform lift is quoted individually. The price depends on the travel height and number of floors, the model and drive type, whether the lift is inside or outside, the finishes you choose and any building works needed. Tell us about your project and we will give you a clear, itemised quotation.
Do I need planning permission for a platform lift?
Most internal platform lifts do not need planning permission, but they must meet Building Regulations. External lifts, listed buildings and properties in conservation areas may need consent. We can advise on your project and provide the drawings and technical information your architect or local authority needs.
Does a platform lift need a pit?
Many of our platform lifts need only a shallow pit or none at all. The APL Open Platform Lift needs no shaft or pit, and our other models are designed for minimal pit and headroom, so they suit buildings where major structural work is not possible.
What is the difference between a platform lift and a passenger lift?
Platform lifts travel more slowly (typically up to 0.15m/s), need less space, a smaller pit and less headroom, and are usually quicker and more cost-effective to install. They are built to BS EN 81-41. Passenger lifts are faster and suit high-traffic buildings over many floors, but need a larger shaft and more building work.
How long does it take to install a platform lift?
Once the site is prepared, most platform lifts are installed in a matter of days, depending on the model and number of floors. Our projects team will agree a programme with you at the survey stage so you know exactly what to expect.
Can a platform lift be installed outside?
Yes. Several of our platform lifts, including the APL Hydraulic, Open, Prestige, Screw Drive and Incline models, can be installed externally with weatherproofing suited to their location.
What maintenance does a platform lift need?
Regular servicing keeps your lift safe and reliable. Lifts used in workplaces or by the public also need a thorough examination under LOLER, usually every six months. We offer service and maintenance plans backed by a 24/7 emergency call-out service.
Do platform lifts meet Part M and the Equality Act?
A platform lift can help your building meet Part M of the Building Regulations and your duties under the Equality Act 2010 by providing step-free access between levels. The right solution depends on your building and how it is used, so ask one of our experts and we will recommend a lift to suit.
