What is a bin lift?
A bin lift is a goods lift that moves waste and recycling bins between levels, for example from a basement or light well bin store up to street level for collection. It removes the need to carry or drag heavy bins up steps and ramps, reducing manual handling.
Which lifts do you use for bins?
The right lift depends on the loads, travel and space available. Our APL Goods Scissor Lift carries up to 10,000kg with up to 6m of travel and can be installed below ground. The APL Hydraulic Goods Lift carries from 300kg to 5,000kg over up to 16m, and the APL Traction Goods Lift carries up to 2,000kg between up to four levels with a 100mm pit.
Can a bin lift be hidden below ground?
Yes. A scissor bin lift can be installed below ground with its roof finished to match the surrounding paving, so bins are out of sight until they are needed. Drainage, waterproofing and structural design are planned as part of the project.
How many bins can a bin lift carry?
We size the platform and capacity around the bins you use and the heaviest full load, whether that is a single wheeled bin or several large communal bins at once. Our team will confirm the right size at the survey.
Can people travel in a bin lift?
Bin lifts are goods lifts and are not designed for passengers. Some models are available for goods plus an attendant, but they should not be used as passenger or accessible lifts. If you also need step-free access for people, we can recommend a suitable platform or cabin lift.
Can a bin lift be installed outside?
Yes. Bin lifts are often installed outdoors or in light wells, with galvanised or powder-coated finishes, weatherproof components and drainage designed into the pit.
How is a bin lift maintained?
Like all goods lifts, a bin lift must be regularly serviced and thoroughly examined in line with workplace equipment regulations. We offer maintenance contracts with 24/7 emergency call-out support.
How much does a bin lift cost?
The cost depends on the lift type, load capacity, travel, whether it is installed below ground, and any building or electrical work. After a site survey we provide a written quotation that sets out exactly what is included.
