Muswell Hill Library
Muswell Hill Library is a cherished and historically significant community hub situated in the heart of North London. Serving generations of local residents, it provides a welcoming space for study, learning, and access to essential resources and public services. Housed in a traditional early 20th-century building, the library is not only a focal point for community engagement but also an architectural landmark with period features and heritage value. However, the age and design of the building presented notable challenges in terms of accessibility, particularly for individuals with mobility needs.
APL1
The Brief
The client wanted to enhance accessibility for all library patrons by installing a reliable and discreet platform lift that would blend into the library’s traditional interior while offering a practical mobility solution. They also wanted a glass atrium to let in natural light as well as provide a scenic experience for their guests.
The primary challenges included:
Space Constraints: The lift had to fit within tight spatial parameters without obstructing existing pathways or compromising safety.
Regulatory Compliance: The solution needed to adhere to all modern accessibility standards while respecting the integrity of the library’s architecture.
User-Friendly Operation: The lift needed to be intuitive, efficient, and easy to use for visitors of all mobility levels.

The Result
Housed in a sleek glass atrium, this striking APL1 lift combines modern engineering with the library’s traditional architecture. The design maximizes natural light while still preserving the building’s historic character, creating an open and inviting transition space.
Alliance Platform Lifts successfully delivered a tailored accessibility solution, ensuring that Muswell Hill Library remains a welcoming and accessible space for all visitors. The project was also completed on time and in accordance with all safety and regulatory standards.
